Composite Software Ships XML/SQL Developers’ Platform for Data Virtualization

Enterprise and government agency IT teams can flexibly choose development environments

Composite Software began shipping the newest upgrade of its flagship product, Composite Information Server, version 5.0. Enterprise and government agency IT teams can flexibly choose development environments in which to build enterprise-scale data virtualization: Composite Designer--optimized for Web services and Java –centric development, and Composite Studio--optimized for relational-centric methods.

As global enterprises seek to maximize the value of their existing data, they must incorporate all possible data sources across their extended enterprises. Increasingly, these enterprises are mandating standards for more efficient data sharing across business groups, geographic locations and outside the firewall with partners/suppliers. Data virtualization and web services help government agencies and enterprises across a broad spectrum of industries to implement their industry- and enterprise-specific XML data-sharing standards. The newest Composite Information Server enables enterprise and data architects, business intelligence (BI) project leads and Information Competency Center (ICC) teams to work in the development environment they’re most familiar with/comfortable using to build the data services that support data sharing, extending across the enterprise the data virtualization benefits they’ve achieved on a project basis.

“Data virtualization provides huge value to enterprise IT,” said David Linthicum, an internationally known expert on Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) and application integration. “This technology approaches data virtualization using key standards, and data services, which should accelerate enterprise adoption.”

Composite Information Server 5.0

Among Composite Information Server’s key features are:

  • Eclipse Designer
    • Universal and familiar to Web Services and Java application developer community
    • Optimized for Java, XML, XQuery and Contract-First Design
  • Contract-First Web Services Design
    • Automatically generates data services from WSDL abstracts
    • Delivers choice between XQuery- or Java-based service implementation
  • Service Component Architecture (SCA)
    • Leverages existing Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) standards
    • Promotes reuse of services
  • Any-to-any transformations
    • Map WSDL to data resources using any-to-any transformations
  • Numerous performance and security enhancements
    • New XQuery and XSLT engine (Saxon-SA)
    • XML schema and XQuery parameter validation at design time
    • SSL Mutual Authentication for Web services and Oracle
    • X509 Credential Mapping

Building on earlier pioneering releases, Composite Information Server 5.0 accesses data in various formats, abstracts data complexity, federates data from disparate sources and delivers the data on demand in the format that is required by the consuming application.

Composite Information Server 5.0 ships today. Pricing is based on required processing power and size of deployment. To download a data sheet or product screen shot, go to
